Trading Places - 1983

Billy Ray Valentine and Louis Winthorp III are the labrats in a rich man's game of "What Would Happen?" They frame and destroy their best empoyee while hiring and grooming a common street con to see if they will adapt or adopt the new lifestyle changes. Is it a sick bet the evil Duke brothers make too because it is for just $1. What happens though, when the labrats find out about the maze?

When sweet little Maureen Stapleton sells you a house, you better find a hotel room fast! Poor Walter. His fiance is Shelley Long. Ha! No, I'm kidding, the reason we pity Walter so much is because he could be us. Everyone takes a leap of faith when they make a big purchase like a used home. When he finds the steal of a lifetime, and moves in well.. the repairs list begin before they even enter the house. The Money Pit has some great sight gags and Tom Hanks really lays it on the line at times. His laugh after the tub falls through the floor is for me a classic comic moment. Let us not forget the late Alexander Godunov (who some know from "DIE HARD") who is so pretentiously funny as The Maestro. This is a Hilarious Clip which i am incapable of describing with words!

Don't tell any of the crybabies around here but there appears to be a naked lady on the hub. She also appears to be hot!! There are a lot of movies that use nudity for humor in quite a funny way. A few that come to mind immediately are..

Howard Stern's rise to stardom is a far more interesting story than I would have thought and Director Betty Thomas does a fantastic job at making this movie female-friendly. Mary McCormack plays a very believable spouse (Alison Stern) to the notoriously misogynistic Howard. But come on...how much longer can i stall before I mention the REAL reason this movie a classic. Because my dear friends, this is where we discovered Pig Vomit. Or more precisely, character actor Paul Giamatti. Robin, Fred, Jackie "The Jokeman" and producer Gary Dell'Abate all make the cut but too bad for Stuttering John who is relegated to a pissy rant during the credits.

Michael J. Fox is here on a lifetime acheivement award! He is here BECAUSE of Teen Wolf and The Secret of My Succe$s and The Hard Way and Doc Hollywood and even Mars Attacks! where he gets killed right away. Good Sport. He is also here because of the little things he does. Have you ever seen the tragic-comic character from Brooklyn that he played in Blue in the Face? [Blue in the Face btw, is a very funny movie too that was improvised and financed with leftover budget from the film Smoke.] My mom also tells me he is "just sensational" in Stuart Little as well. This is also in a small way for Alex P. Keaton, who I love and hate to this day.

Marty McFly travels back in time to 1955 where he runs into his parents, and eventually the man who sent him there in the first place. Dr. Emmett Brown or "Doc" was played so memorably by Christopher Lloyd that you are right now thinking to yourself lines like, "1.21 Gigawatts" and "88 Miles Per Hour!" aren't you? If not, it had to be, "Damn, where is that kid?" or my personal favorite, "There's that word again Heavy, in the future, is there something wrong with the earth's gravitational pull?" <Chuckles> Props too for Crispin Glover who gave a genuine non-hero some real punch.
