Billy Squier - Big Beat (Hip-Hop Classic)

63

By DJ Funktual

Okay kiddies, let's have fun. I've never focused an entire hub on one song before but I think this particular song deserves recognition for it's contributions to Hip-Hop History. Billy Squier was a 70's rock star and he was big believer in loud drummers. Hits by him that receive a decent amount of Classic Rock radio time include:

  1. The Stroke

  2. In The Dark

  3. Lonely Is The Night

  4. Everybody Wants You

  5. My Kinda Lover

  6. Rock Me Tonite

  7. Christmas Is The Time To I Love You

but he will known forever because of his little known single....

Big Beat - Billy Squier ~ ALBUM: The Tale of the Tape: (Capitol 1980)

Five Years Later....... Jam Master Jay brought it back!

A Couple of Years later Special Ed took it on "The Mission"

Naughty By Nature slowed it down for a reggae track! This is the ultra-smoove groove Wickedest Man Alive featuring Queen Latifah

British Grime Rapper "Dizzee Rascal" brought it back again in 2003!

and the chances are we will be hearing Billy's drummer again soon.  I hope this was informative for those of you thinking of going into musc production but I especially do these type things for the lovers of the old school.

Man that shit is knocking everytime I hear it. The first time I heard it in hip hop was the Dizzee Rascal version which was sick too.

This hub reminds me of my blog at http://samplelicious.blogspot.com

Oh shit! When did you start that thing? That was awesome. MIA sample is so sick eh? Might use it on the next video. I might also use Kid Charlemagne for Kanye's "Champion", we'll see!

Sorry commonsense, lets talk about Billy Squier's Big Beat or any of the other hip hop songs that use the sample. The DJ was talking about my blog.

Glad you accepted the offer. I sent you an invite. You can post as often as you like, whatever you like, just as long as it relates to sampling. The blog's yours just as much as its mines.

This is nuts. You have some kinda crazy ear to be able to connect the dots like this. I can understand it when it's all put in front of me, but I'd never be able to just hear and recognize like you do.

I dig Billy Squier but I must say that I have never heard the songs sampling Big Beat.  Never really got into the rap.  I've always been a rocker.  The Beastie Boys License To Ill and Ill Communication are the only rap cds I own.

you can add to the sample list Scratch Perverts - Here we go

I got the big beat!!
