Top 10 Samples in Hip-Hop History ~ Part 15
67If You Don't Have This Album Yet....
Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin, I'd like to sincerely thank you all! This edition was a departure for me in that I often use my favorite funk songs that just happen to be samples. Today, I have completely diversified the original source material to include, Jazz, Blues, Yemenite Israeli music and a special focus on Reggae.
I'm not sure if it'll be as funky as the others but we'll see...

This is great! I grew up with hip-hop and I would always be amazed when I heard the original songs that samples were taken from. I would be riding in the car with dad and he always listened to the oldie or dusty station. Then a song with some familiar sounds would play like "Ain't no half steppin" by Heatwave and I would think that's in a Doug E Fresh song - (Keep Risin' to the Top) or Big Daddy Kane song (Ain't No Half Steppin). That started my love of old soul, funk, and r&b, music. And the more I listened to it-the more I heard songs that were sampled by hip-hop and r&b artists.
Nice vid... those backbeats are just what I need to get crackin. I like the sources so much better than the derivatives.
Yo Dude, I think this is how most of us know you...LOL
Yo, I wasn't on my computer until tonight and barely got your email. I'll call you tomorrow (Monday) around the same time as you indicated, if that's cool.
Later!
DJ Funktuall, I don't know how you do it. But you've managed to un-mask sampled songs that took me DECADES to find!I mean this sincerly...when I discovered your youtube channel,I got a feel of what it would be like to discover the lost city of Atlantis. DJ to DJ, I thank you.
If I ruled the world was originally done by kurtis blow
Great grat great grat grat great great stuff
Oh these are great titles right here
hi, and greetings from Italy! :) I love your videos man! eheh
Anyway, as im a reggae dj too, i have to tell you this about your track number..
10) Uptown Top Ranking - Althea & Donna
I'm Still in Love With You ~ Sean Paul & Sasha
In fact che original track is frm the great jamaican rocksteady singer Alton Ellis - Still in love .
Then, in the 80ties, Marcia Aitken singed a popular version of that tune, under Joe Gibbs production, who decided to made a entire riddim of this, where you can find the Althea & Donna tune too! :)
here can you see the list of (i think) alla the tune made on the "I'm still in love with you riddim"

bye!
Hi you Funk(iest)tual(l),
this is my first post here, just watched your YT-vids and your comments on hup-pages as well side by side so i can read and watch and listen to the "full length" trax (when i find them at YT)
you may want to know that i´m listening to your shows at the train while it takes me to work as well....way cool man!
For the boneyM. thing, crazy but true: I got the old hammond M3 Organ from the old and closed FF-studio located in "Offenbach am Main" germany back than.
For the E.V.A. it was waaay ahead when it came out around 1970...!! Nither jean michel jarre (oxygene, equinoxe) nor kraftwerk was there...only tangerine dream came "´round the bend" back those old days when electronic music started (check wendy carlos as well; his -or her- "switched on bach" LP is nearly what IBBs apache is to HipHop)
cheers and many thanx for your incredible work,
TBC
