84THE SUPREME BEING
Feelin' Irie Today? Good. Lay Back. Hammock, Lawnchair. Beach. Radio. The Most Beautiful Music in the World in gonna help Relax Your Mind. See How It Soothes You?
And All It asks in Return is that WE, the Fortunate Ones, the "Tomorrow People" (as Ziggy Marley once called us) Listen to the Words that Heal You. LET'S GET TOGETHER AND FEEL ALRIGHT. To these Songs of Freedom, These Redemption Songs. The order does not really matter and that is why I didn't obsess over it like I normally would. This is the music born of struggle and poverty. Of HUMANITY.
This music was given to us by people who knew the risks involved with recording their beliefs on tape. Knew the price of spreading hope to the oppressed. That is why Bob Marley always sounded amazingly human and full of life. Because he knew he was dying and lived every day to the fullest. He and Jah were that tight.
So in honor of Bob Marley, Martin Luther King Jr, John Lennon, Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and all the Freedom Fighters out there who knew one small truth. We are all the same. Equals.
one love.
one heart.

hi
Where's Dennis Brown's "Sitting And Watching" or June Lodge's "Someone Loves You Honey". Yellowman? What about "Greetings"?
(otherwise, nice list... but "Pass The Dutchie" when you didn't list the original it was based on?
who was the original singer of the John Holt hit I WILL
Gregory Isaacs- "Night Nurse" is my favorite as well as "Cool Down the Pace" and "Stranger in Town"
and Barrington Levy-" Murderer"
THE BEST!!!!!!!!
Reading your list and watching/listening to the videos lowered my blood pressure about 10 points! Reggae always instantly transports me into sunny climes.
Johnny Too Bad by Jimmy Cliff is one of my alltime faves. MM
The Beatles did the original 'I Will', its on the White Album.
This is a great list. Except you have Hard Road to travel in there twice so you could replace it with Wonderful World, Beautiful People!
I can't belive that Armagideon Time by Willie Williams isn't on the list, aside from that great list.
How is there no Burning Spear on this list????
I-tal sounds and artists missing.
Not listed or few : Black uhuru, sugar minott, steel pulse, groundation, jr.byles, bunny wailer, burning spear and so on.
This is a great list, all of this song are gold, Bob Marley is the god of reggae
this list is primitive at best, good try. but not really does it do justice to what Roots ROCK REGGAE is. and Bob Marley although he is a great artist is only a small part of reggae.
bob marley nuff said
where is groundation! or ponto de equilibrio! or the gladiators!
Thanks for the list. Always trying to expand my repertoire! But I can't believe some of what's missing. How 'bout any Yellowman or Eek-a-mouse, Billy Boyo's "She Wicked, She Wicked," I know nothing more classic than Scotty's "Draw Your Brakes," and I'm with the Burning Spear Fans. But my biggest complaint would have to be your #50 ranking of Steppin Razor! But thanks for putting yourself out there for us!!! I greatly appreciate the ones I found!
There is no way to please everyone with any kind of #'d list. I think you did a fine job and agree with most all of the tunes. I'll throw my 2 cents in with Bongo Man (Jimmy Cliff). I've had the pleasure of seeing that song live twice. Check out my new hub with some handbills and tickets from some of the reggae shows I've seen. Irie-Peace!!
This is great. If you make 101-150 add some 10 Ft Ganja Plant and some of the other newer stuff. I'm Big into Passafire and SOJA, there not the straight roots reggae, but they definately do a good job, especially SOJA.
Sugar minott. king of reggae. you have to love his voice. and belifes.
pour tous les amateurs de regae ecouté Fantan Mojah stronger je la trouve vraiment bien!
hullo reggae fans i need ure help.
What is the name of the very fine tune that goes "fire in shop, shop, shop.....hot, hot, hot"
that all i know please help.....cheers.
waiting in vain should definately be number one but well done for having it on the list!! Bossa n marleys cover is amazing of it too. Check it out reggae fans!
where is alton ellis, hopeton, slim smith ?
HI EVERYONE WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG THAT GOES LIKE THIS: THE SUN IS SHINING BRIGHT, THAT IS THE END OF THE DAY......JUST ONE KISS AND I WILL GO......
The Melodians - Sweet Sensation should be in this list !
THIS LIST IS WEAK
The Congos: Fisherman.... Jr Byles... Eek-a-mouse at least ganga smuggling
although this list is OK, where is more UB40?! dreadlock holiday is one if the best songs EVER.
No 'Classic' list should include UB40 IMHO. Good tunes, but even a quick look at some of the other comments suggests many many more contenders worthy of a spot. you've got the classic 'King tubby meets the Rockers uptown' but I don't see Lee Perry's 'Blackboard Jungle' which is every bit as good IMO.It'd certainly blow Musical Youth right off the list.
Not knocking the effort you put in tho mate. Just a big big music fan. Some quality tunes on there ;-)
this song...am a man of few words lots of action, actions stronger than words or they say.. who sang it?
Interesting list, but its missing one of the biggest reggae bands... STEEL PULSE. They were too influential and have too many hits to be left off any "Best of" list of reggae songs or artists.
Example: Chant a psalm, stepping out, your house and my personal favorite: rally round .
Dont take my word for it... go to you tube or google
Bob is a minute particle in the bucket of reggae. Maybe its what tourist knows anyway
Love letter-yellowman
The way you do the things you do-Ub40

Barrington Levy - Too Experienced
Maxi Priest - It's A Wild World
This list is so much missing Culture and Mikey Dread
I got one for you;love me little girl-junior moore,a super reggae classic also -the royals greatest hits.
how about mighty diamond ? how about always around by third world ,how about jahwork by the gladiators? how about ijahman levi .etc...
Gregory Isaacs- "Night Nurse" is my favorite as well as "Cool Down the Pace" and "Stranger in Town"
Way too much focus on Marley. Where is Eek-A-Mouse, Hugh Mundell, Dr Alimentado, Culture, Gladiators etc . As for UB40 - do me a favour!
Who says Bob Marley is not reggae??.Though, there are some great artists like yellowman that i believe should be on d list, nevertheless, its awesome
IRIE,too many good artist for a top 100 me and my brethren made our own top 100 with no duplicate artist on the list artist such as Tenor Saw,Don Carlos,Aswad,Mikey Dread, wailing Souls,Michael Prophet,Lacksley Castell,Al Campbell and the list goes on I LOVE ALL REGGAE MUSIC
Thank you for providing exactly the entertainment we requested at the fee we specified and for supervising the evening so perfectly. All of it was superb!
I agree this list focuses on Bob Marley way too much. They left out Burning Spear, Eek A Mouse, Buju Banton,Israel Vibrations,Jacob Miller, Mikey Dread, Capeleton, Horace Andy. I could go on and on listing great reggae artists they left out not to mention all the good songs they left out by Gregory Isaacs like Slavemaster, Philistines, Objection Overruled and Lee Perry has countless awesome songs and Dubs that are not on the list not mention they left out King Tubby and Yellowman. They 4sure need to add Eek A Mouse's Anarexol 12" version and Wa Do Dem and Jimmy Cliffs Sitting in Limbo. In my opinion I think Bob Marley is overrated yes he does have quite a few good songs but there are so many other reggae artist that are so much better then Marley in my opinion. I can't believe they left out Bob Marley's High Tide, Who the Cap Fit and Love, those are some of my favorite songs by him
i like ratsamouse theamw toon, and all bobs songs
those are some good hits but u only scrap the top of regga its half u have alot of pertying to do
Since your speciality is samples i'm surprised you haven't put "Jungle Lion" by The Upsetters in your list. It uses an Al Green sample of "Love and Happiness". Personally one of my favourite reggae tunes.
Anyways, much love from the UK
There is a song that says "bird rock" anybody knows this song?
big too you,, nice list maybe some work needed missing but that should be down each man too his or hers Freddie McGregor missing Big Ships still a dance hall filler and bobby Babylon; Admiral Tibett- poor Freddy and one last tune from Freddie McGregor-We Got Love
without music life would be a mistake.I do adore Reggae music, the teachings, atmosphere created,it's very satisfying.forever keep serving
Hi gentle people, who sang the song the song that has the following lines '...am a man of view words but lots of actions
actions stronger words so they say
am a token somehow u wil be loved

Cool reggae videos. I've been a big fan of Bob Marley for years. Not just his music, but his whole lifestyle and beliefs. His promotion of love and equality for everyone thru his music was an inspiration to all. He is sorely missed today. We could use an artist like Bob these days.
